Round 2 of the 2015 JBRL Series would be held at my home track Coyote Hobbies Raceway. I missed the first round of the series due to a schedule conflict with my new Speedway Sprint Car Racing Series that I have been doing now also. I couldn’t miss a big race at my local track though. Dave and Mona always do a great job especially when a big race is coming.
The new layout was really smooth and fast this time especially with the track wet enough to run Proline Primes all the way around. Everybody was hooked up all day on slicks and the lap times were fast and consistent!
First up was 1/8 Scale E-Buggy which I really enjoy racing, since I don’t get to run it as much as my other cars. I was able to put together 2 solid qualifying runs with my Venom/ Tekin Powered Losi Eight 3.0. My Proline tires were hooked up all night and I was able to qualify 2nd behind Rudy Rico. In the Main event Rudy and I had a good run going breaking away from the rest of the pack. We would both make a few mistakes letting us swap positions a few times. I made 1 big mistake that put me 5 seconds back. I got back in my groove and started reeling Rudy in. I finished just over 1 second behind Rudy at the finish for 2nd place, just needed a couple more laps though.
1/8 Scale Podium: 1st Rudy Rico, 2nd Chris Blais, 3rd Carlos Wiggins Next up was Pro 4 and my truck was working awesome all night. I had so much grip with my Proline Prime tires my truck was edgy. I was able to put an ok 1st qualifier together to keep me barely in the A-main. The second qualifier went better and I was able to move up to the 3rd spot for the Main. In the main I got taken out in the 3rd turn by an anxious driver and had to make my way back from last place. I made my comeback and actually got as high as 2nd place at one point then I made a mistake and slipped back a little. I was able to pull off a 4th Place Overall finish in my Coyote Hobbies, Airtronics, Venom, Tekin, Proline sponsored Losi SCTE 2.0.
My final race was 4wd Modified Buggy. This is also one of my favorite classes to run. My car was on rails all day with my Proline Primes and Venom batteries. This class was packed with 4 full heats of 4wd Buggies. After 2 decent qualifiers I was only able to salvage a 3rd place start in the B Main. I had an epic battle to the finish with Kevin Motter and Cody Turner that came from last place. I would finish 2nd place behind Kevin Motter and make it into the A Main just barely. I started last in the A Main but was able to get towards the middle group and finish 5th.
I took a little break from RC the first part of this year to pursue some other racing activities and had a blast this time at JBRL Round 2. Thanks to all my sponsors for sticking by me: Coyote Hobbies, Venom, Proline, Tekin, & Airtronics! Martin Blais would have a bit of a rough night with a lot of agressive drivers. Martin would finish 4th in Sportsman Stock Buggy C Main, 8th in Sportsman Stock SC C main, 3rd in Pro 4 SC B-Main, & 5th in 1/8 Scale B-main.
