Blais Racing, JBRL Round 3 Race Report!

JBRL Round 3

May 25th, 2013

Pegasus Hobbies

By Chris Blais:

Round 3 of the Awesome JBRL series would take place at Pegasus Hobbies.  This would be my 2nd JBRL round this year as I had to miss Round 2 at SDRC.  We had some great weather this year which made the long day of racing a little nicer.

In 4x4 Open buggy the day didn't start out too well as I hit a pipe on the 2nd lap and had to take a DNF in Heat 1.  In Heat 2 I would have a perfect run and qualify 6th in the stacked class.  In the Main event I would make it as high as 3rd place but dropped back to 6th after a couple of mistakes.  I really enjoy driving this class and my Coyote Hobbies/ Venom Powered Team Associated B44.2 worked great all day.  My Proline M4 holeshots were hooked up.

In Pro 4 I had made a lot of setup changes to my Tekno SCT410 and was still getting used to the truck.  I was able to qualify 7th, just 1 position ahead of my brother Nick.  I had a decent run going in the main but 1 crash took me out of contention along with some bumping and rubbing during the race.  I would end up 8th in the main event.

In 1/8 E-Buggy I would have a great qualifying run with my Venom/ Tekin Powered Tekno EB-48.  I would end up qualifying 4th in the A-main.  During the main event I just tried to keep my cool and put in fast consistent laps.  I wasn't the fastest driver but I only made 1 mistake in the 10 minute main event and was able to get on the podium in 3rd place.  I saved a pair of Proline M4 Holeshots for the main event and they kept me hooked up and in control.  Thanks to all our sponsors that help us out so much. Coyote Hobbies Raceway, Proline, Venom, Tekno, Team Associated, & Tekin. You guys are awesome!

Martin Blais would take 3rd place in The Sportsman Stock Short Course B Main, 6th Place in the Sportsman 4wd Short Course A Main, & 2nd in the 1/8 Scale E-Buggy B Main.

1st Chad Panek, 2nd Scott Wolf, 3rd Chris Blais

By Nick Blais:

On Friday I was able to get some good practice in.  Today was a good day to figure out a great tire selection.  I was to go with Proline M3 Holeshots on all my vehicles.  My Proline Pro 2 truck was hooked up as always and I only ran a few packs all day with it.  My Tekno EB-48 has just been excellent since the day I bought it, and still haven't changed shock oil/ diff oils.  The Techno SCT410 was good and only got better after Matt from Tekno started to dial it in.  Race day was coming fast as we worked into the night.

Come race day I was finally able to get a break between races and not have any back to back races.  Qualifying started with Pro 2 starting off a little slow for me, but in the second qualifier I was able to pull it together and qualify 4th for the A main.  4wd SC was stacked with talent as well as pro 2 but I ended up with a pretty good run and it was only good for a 9th in the A main.   In the first 1/8 scale race I was able to take the TQ but after the second of the two races I was to get beat out by less than a second.  I was going to try and get the TQ back with a new set of tires for the second qualifier and missed it just by a touch.  The tires needed just a few more practice laps.

Main events came at night time for most of the A mains and came to an end around midnight.  Pro 2 came first for me and off to a good start we were running and most of the race I was able to run in my qualifying spot.  Toward the end of the race someone from behind got into me and I got the worse end of that bump.  I dropped way back and towards the end of the race I had to let the top 3 guys by putting me a lap down.  But I did happen to make it back up for a 5th place finish and that isn't too bad for such a stacked field.

In my pro 4 race I was able to move up a few spots right off the bat.  Moving my way forward for awhile up to a forth just for a little, I was to just start battling for every place that I was trying to make.  Scott Wolf just started to slam everyone out of his way and I was just getting sick of it.  It came down to a battle between the two of us at least until it was so bad that I was in the far back of the pack.  This class has just turned into a serious hack class.  It has turned from my funniest classes to the worst one of the bunch. I came away with a next to last finish. Good thing all my Tekin electronics can take that much punishment.

My 1/8 scale class was the last race on the night.  It started out good for me.  Took the start and just stayed steady and after a mistake from the leader I took off with Chad Panek in tow.  We ran away for the next couple of laps and then when we came up on lappers and that is where it all went bad for me.  I ran into a back marker after a pile up was unfolding.  I got spun out and for the next lap I had a few more mistakes that happened.  After getting some concentration back I was able to come back for a 5th place finish.

I would like to thank all my sponsors with tires being the biggest part in this type of racing with all the awesome Proline tires they supply, and at the races for the immediate support.  Tekno has been there every race as well with their cars being totally stellar.  My Venom batteries and Tekin electronics have always kept my vehicles strong, day and night!  Most of all my family for being there BlaisRacingServices.com  See you at the races!
